I've just delivered a third casting of this piece, as shown above. Each one looks nicer than the last as I refine my technique. The hemispherical base of the most recent version features highly polished raised surfaces. The negative space was heavily abraded to enhance the contrast.
I used white wax on the figure and the raised surfaces of the hemisphere and a clear wax on the abraded surfaces.
